BREVARD COUNTY, Florida – Brevard Public Schools announced it will make a one-time payment of $ 1,000 to all of its employees after a year that “posed unique challenges” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school district said the payment is intended to recognize all employees “for their unwavering commitment” in making the school year just ended “a success.”

Employees will receive payment as part of the payroll this summer, according to the district.

“BPS teachers, staff and administrators have worked tirelessly this school year and in a unique year we wanted to give them unique recognition,” School Board President Misty Belford said in a statement. . “Our ability to save the district money over the past few months has allowed us to do this and we couldn’t be happier.”

Brevard Schools said it had partnered with the Brevard Federation of Teachers, Local 1010 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Traders and the Brevard Association of School Administrators to be able to provide the payment. unique.

The school year recently ended with the school board’s decision to go ahead with making masks optional starting in the summer.

Despite the mask change, the district said security protocols, including improved cleaning, will remain in place. Officials said the district will offer the Brevard Virtual School to those who feel more comfortable with the option. Parents can register their students until June 16.
