“I am honored to be elected to this post,” said Poore. “The Big 12 conference and each of our institutions are doing important work on diversity, equity and inclusion. I look forward to playing this role with the outstanding leaders of the association and the conference.

The Big 12 Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education is a section of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education. The President of the Association is responsible for leading diversity leaders from all Big 12 member institutions in discussions and initiatives that will impact on the direction of diversity, equity and diversity policies and practices. inclusion throughout the conference.

Past President Dr. Carol A. Sumner of Texas Tech University looks forward to seeing Poore in this new role.

“I had the honor to serve alongside Meshea last year and celebrate her now as President of the Big 12 Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education,” Sumner said. “She is an incredible champion for DCI and a leader for her university community and beyond. Meshea has worked to make connections across the Big 12 and we are delighted that she is leading us forward. As members of their Institutional Executive Leadership Teams, each Association Officer and Board Member is responsible for leading DCI’s comprehensive efforts with academic and community partners in all areas of academic operations. The association enables all members of the Big 12 and its affiliates to share ideas and resources to respond to emerging trends and work systematically to improve experience and equity in all member institutions. With the new focus on long-standing issues of systemic discrimination and historical injustices, the association is more important than ever to member institutions and their communities.

“Meshea’s work is important to the Big 12 Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education and to the University of West Virginia as we work towards a more equitable and inclusive society,” said President Gordon Gee. “The Association’s efforts go beyond athletics and into academic engagement, student affairs and human resources, areas where she will use her extraordinary talents to address issues of racism, discrimination and human rights. social injustice. “

Some of the association’s recent initiatives and efforts have included working with the Big 12 Athletic Conference as it develops a strong DCI effort at the conference level. An example of the work is the creation of a student-athlete advisory group, for which Poore is currently an advisor.

“I and my Big 12 colleagues look forward to continuing to work with Commissioner Bob Bowlsby as they engage in important conversations that touch everyone from student-athletes to faculty and staff and in schools. larger communities that our institutions call home, ”said Poore.

WVU Sports Director and Associate Vice President Shane Lyons is excited about Poore’s new role.
